Katie Holmes files for divorce from Tom Cruise after five years of marriage... and she's 'seeking sole custody of Suri'

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have sensationally revealed they are divorcing after five years of marriage.
The Hollywood superstar, 49, said he was ‘deeply saddened’ that his younger wife, 33, had filed for a separation.
He revealed the former Dawson's Creek actress had initiated the split, bringing a dramatic end to one of Hollywood's most high-profile romances.
In a surprise move, Miss Holmes is understood to have filed for sole custody of the couple's daughter Suri, six.

'This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,' Holmes's lawyer Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement to People magazine.
'Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest.'
A spokesperson for Cruise, who is currently in Iceland filming his new sci-fi movie Oblivion, said: 'Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children.'
The actress filed documents in New York this week citing 'irreconcilable differences'.

Those close to her said that she felt he wasn’t putting any effort into her or the marriage.
Her once promising film career – she had been the love interest in Batman Begins – had been stifled. Roles evaporated. She ended up trying to find work as a fashion designer, endorsing the line Holmes and Yang.

No sign of trouble: The couple smiled and held hands in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in one of the last pictures of them together

The couple’s 2006 Italian wedding was choreographed like a massive movie premiere, with more bodyguards than guests and the ultimate goal seemingly the fantastically romantic images which were released to the media of the A list star and his pretty bride.
This came in the wake of the president of Paramount Sumner Redstone complaining that women found the actor ‘creepy.’

Omoni Oboli, the Nollywood Actress with the Best Public Relations

Omoni Oboli has been rated the Nollywood actress with the best public relations and from informed knowledge, her husband Nnamdi is the secret behind her superb public relations and they have been married for 12 years and still waxing stronger as the most solid celebrity couple in Nollywood. She has also acknowledged the exemplary role of her husband in her successful professional life.

Public relations are not well appreciated in Nigeria, because many Nigerians do not appreciate the importance, relevance and significance of public relations in both private and public sectors.

That is why Nigeria has a very terrible image in the global village, and Nigerians are being labeled as fraudsters and drug peddlers in the international community when only very few Nigerians are engaged in these crimes, because of our bad public relations. And unfortunately, the appropriate public officials in government and corporate affairs managers in private companies have not performed up to the expectations of the best practices of public relations.

Nigerian corporate Affairs managers don’t even know how to reply important emails or letters and their companies end up with bad public relations as can be seen in the common misunderstandings between them and their respective customers/clients in their host communities.

Most of these corporate affairs managers or public relations officers forget that they are the public image of their companies. Many of them even lack basic company manners when compared to their foreign counterparts or peers.

Therefore, it is really imperative to emphasize the urgency of this matter in our private and public lives and in particular where public relations would be of immense benefit to Nigeria and Nigerians locally and internationally such as in Nollywood the most popular Nigerian brand in the world which is seen as the mirror of Nigeria and Nigerians in the global village.

Babies-for-sale: Soldiers raid Aba orphanage

Soldiers attached to the 144

Battalion of the Nigeria Army, Aba, Abia State, have stormed a motherless babies home in the city and arrested six girls for alleged child trafficking while six babies were recovered.

The officer in charge of the Forward Operation Base (FOB) in Aba, Captain Chris Nwogu, said the raid followed complaint received from one Chidinma (other names withheld) that her friend deceived her into taking her three months old baby boy to the orphanage where she was given some cash on an alleged understanding that she would have access to the child whenever she wanted.

Nwogu said the girl reported that she was paid N300, 000 and the friend that brought her was given N200, 000 and she gave out the child with the hope that she would have access to him as agreed. The officer in charge said in the process of transacting the business, Chidinma’s mother died and she travelled to their hometown, Mgbo in Ebonyi State for the burial. According to the army officer, Chidinma said after the burial, she called the orphanage and informed them she was coming to see her child.

The management of the home was said to have told the girl that as far as she had been paid, she would no longer see nor have access to the baby. This prompted Chidinma to report the matter to the Army. Nwogu said when soldiers stormed the orphanage, workers in the place refused to open the gate for them but that his men managed to gain entry into the place.

Nwogu said before gaining access into the home, the founder was at large, leaving behind three pregnant girls who she allegedly contracted to deliver their babies for her. They were arrested together with two other girls said to be workers in the place.

The officer informed that the soldiers rescued six children ranging from three days old to 16 years. Three of them were said to have been brought from Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

The army officer, while appealing to the founder of the home to make herself available, said those arrested would be handed over to the State Security Service (SSS) for further investigation and the children given to the Department of Social Welfare for upkeep till their rightful parents would come.  Some of the girls who spoke to Daily Sun said they had problem with the men that impregnated them and were introduced to the home by their friends and the lady accepted to take care of their pregnancy and pay them off when they were delivered of their babies.

Chidinma told Daily Sun, “I sold the baby last Monday for N300,000 and on Friday, my mother died, so I used part of the amount I was paid to bury her and when I came back to see my boy as we agreed, they refused.” Another girl simply named MaryAnn from Item in Bende Local Government Area was said to have been delivered of a baby girl last Friday but that the baby was taken away immediately and the mother had not seen her neither was she paid any money.

The soldiers appealed to the authorities in the state to close the home because of alleged atrocities said to be going on in the place.

‘My wife uses sex as bargaining tool’

Mr. Taiwo Benson has urged an Ado-Ekiti Grade 1 Customary Court to dissolve his eight-year-old marriage with his wife, Maureen, because she used sex as a bargaining tool.
Benson also told the court that his wife was not only troublesome, she had also abandoned him and did not show love and care toward him, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Benson told the court that the marriage produced two children, aged six and four years.
He said, “My wife denies me sex on a regular basis. She only gives me sex whenever she wants to get something in return.
“There have been countless occasions when I demanded sex from my wife, and she would just ignore me like I did not exist.
“She uses sex as a bargaining tool. This has been the biggest issue in the marriage. Why will my wife be starving me of sex?”
He said his wife was often quarrelsome, adding that they were always having problems in their marriage because of personality clashes.
Benson said, “She is a very proud and stubborn woman. I am also a proud man, and both of us cannot be proud at the same time so this always caused problem between us because we are never on the same page.
“She does not show me any kind of love or affection. I am tired of this marriage and I implore this court to dissolve the marriage.
The wife, who was present in court admitted starving her husband of sex but noted that she stopped having sex with him when she realised that he slept around.
Maureen said, “I stopped having sex with him as soon as I knew he slept around. My husband runs a non-governmental organisation. So, he travels a lot. Whenever he gets back and I am packing his loads from his car, I always saw used condoms in his car.
“Whenever I accused him of cheating on me, he would beat me and immediately he finished beating me, he would want to have sex with me.
“When I refused to give him sex at that point, he would say that sex was the remedy to calm nerves down after a fight.”
Maureen said Benson always wanted her to practise what they watched in pornographic movies.
“My husband is a big fan of pornographic movies, and he derives pleasure and joy watching them. Whenever he watches it, he will always want us to practise what they do in the movie.
“I am not a porno star; how am I supposed to do that? I was not raised in such background. As usual, my refusal results in beating, and he even goes as far as threatening me with a machete he keeps in our bedroom.
“I cannot go on this way; please I want the dissolution of this marriage.”
The counsel to the petitioner, Miss Okonny Hilda, pleaded with the court to adjourn the case in order to respond to the defendant’s counter claim.
However, the lawyer to the respondent, Miss Agibulu Toyin, objected to the plea, saying the law guiding the court did not permit such.
The President of the court, Mrs. Christiana Ajibabi, adjourned the case till July 19, for further hearing.

A 24-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly seduced a 15-year-old boy in a tanning booth as his mother worked out in the gym.
Betsy Ann Brashear was found wearing only a sports bra when the boy's mother knocked on the door to the booth in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Brashear said she knew the boy's age and admitted kissing him, but said there was 'nothing wrong or illegal about giving someone a kiss', according to an affidavit.

The boy and his mother had gone to Colaw Fitness for a late evening work out, the Tulsa World reported.
The mother told police she saw Brashear flirting with her son and asked other people to keep an eye on what was happening.
A man working out in the gym saw the boy go into the tanning room and told the mother, who went over and pounded on the door.

Her son answered the door, but the mother noticed Brashear - wearing nothing but a sports bra - was trying to hide in the room, the affidavit said.
The boy told police Brashear talked him into going into the tanning room, where she then stripped and started kissing him, the affidavit said.
Brashear told police she had not stripped off - although witnesses in the gym told police they saw her without clothes.
The mother said she dragged the woman out of the room, but let her go as men were nearby and the woman was wearing very little.

The doctor behind the 'hunger cult' that obsessed a mother who 'starved her 16-year-old daughter to death'

A mother who is accused of starving her daughter to death after the 16-year-old died weighing just 40 pounds was obsessed with the teachings of a doctor who advocates being 'wonderfully hungry.'
Dr Andrew Chung, a cardiologist who graduated from one of the most prestigious medical schools in the nation, mixes scripture with his medical advice and encourages his followers to eat just two pounds a day -- less than half what the average American consumes.
Ebony Berry, 38,is friends with Dr Chung, he said. After her daughter, Markea Blakely-Berry, died on Saturday and she was arrested for murder, Dr Chung also visited her in jail.
Now, it is revealed police have questioned the controversial doctor about the teen's horrific death.
Dr Andrew Chung

Dr Chung, who is a licensed physician in the state of Georgia, is active online in pushing his message that 'hunger is wonderful.'
He has more than 5,300 friends on Facebook and has made hundreds of posts on internet message boards.

His book self-published book, 'Be Hungry,' is available for download at Amazon.com.
In an online video posted to YouTube, Dr Chung is 'interviewed' by a nurse, who is filming the encounter.
He says, 'I'm wonderfully hungry. How about you?'

Happy family: Markea, left, plays with a relative at a family gathering before her abuse began

The only thing that can straighten this out... that (police) hear from Ms Berry herself,' he told the TV station.
'She's an ordinary, single mom who's stressed out.'
Berry had a history of child abuse complaints in Grand Rapids, Michigan, before she moved her daughter to Mableton, Gerogia, which is also Dr Chung's hometown.
WOOD-TV reports Markea Blakely-Berry once sent her grandmother a chilling drawing that featured people sitting around a table full of good things to eat. None of the people had anything on their plates.
When she died, police say Markea weighed just 40 pounds. It was just one third the average weight for a 16-year-old girl, which is 115 to 120 pounds.

Despite a medical degree from the prestigious Emory University Medical School, which ranks in the top 25 in the country, Dr Chung has found enormous numbers of critics to his philosophy.
In response to his online postings -- which are one part medical advice, one part references to Bible verses -- he has been called a 'quack' who advocates a 'cult religion.'
He denies that his teachings are a cult, but even after the death of Markea, told WOOD-TV: 'We wish everyone could truthfully say they're wonderfully hungry.'

Star Spotting: One Direction And Katy Perry Get Close!

For us, there are two ways you know you've really made it in life: 1.) You get VIP treatment at your fave restaurant (Applebee's doesn't just give everyone an extra chicken finger, guys). 2.) Famous boy bands give you a shout-out, like One Direction did for Katy Perry'sforthcoming 3-D concert movie. Not that Katy really needs the help. We're pretty sure there's going to be a mile-long line at every theater on July 5! (And I will be in one of those lines dressed exactly like these kids.)
But just in case the world didn't already know that "Katy Perry: Part Of Me" is going to be the most epic movie of 2012, One Direction's Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson's recent Twitter photo, featuring the guys and a life-size Katy Perry movie poster, makes it official. And judging by the photo's caption -- "saw the katy perry movie earlier. Wow, what an amazing woman. True talent!" --  it sounds like the guys loved it!
But we're thinking Liam and Louis may have had some ulterior motives when they checked out the film. Perhaps they're doing research for their own possible 3-D movie. Or this wholeKaty Perry crush rumor (in addition to Niall Horan's apparent crush on Demi Lovato) is true. Let's be honest: Nothing's sexier than a bro who totally supports your work. Oh, and being a multimillionaire doesn't hurt either.

Nigerian Breaks Academic Record At John Hopkins University

22-year-old Nigerian, Emmanuel Ohuabunwa
A 22-year-old Nigerian has emerged the best graduating student of John Hopkins University in the United States. He obtained a Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of a possible 4.0 to earn a degree in Neurosciences, SEGUN  OLUGBILE writes.
A 22-year-old Nigerian, Emmanuel Ohuabunwa, has made history at John Hopkins University, United States of America.  Ohuabunwa from Arochukwu, Abia State, has done the nation proud by becoming the first black man to make a Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of 4.0 to bag a degree in Neurosciences in the university. He was also adjudged as having the highest honours during the graduation that was held on May 24 this year.
For his efforts, he has won a scholarship to Yale University to pursue a degree in medicine. Besides, he has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Society, a prestigious honour group that features membership of 17 US Presidents, 37 US Supreme Court Justices, and 136 Nobel Prize winners.
According to Wikipedia, The Phi Beta Kappa Society is an academic honour society. Its mission is to “celebrate and advocate excellence in the liberal arts and sciences” and induct “the most outstanding students of arts and sciences at America’s leadingcolleges and universities.”
It was founded at The College of William and Mary on December 5, 1776, and thus it is the oldest honour society for the liberal arts and sciences and among the oldestundergraduate societies in the US.
In an online interview with our correspondent, Ohuabunwa, who was born in Okota, Lagos and attended Lilly Fields Primary School, Lagos, said he left Nigeria after his junior secondary school education at Air Force Comprehensive School, Ibadan, Oyo State.
“My parents moved the whole family when I was 13 years old. I was about to begin SS1 at Air Force, Ibadan. When I got to the US, I was enrolled with my age mates, which meant at 13, I was in middle school. I went to Fondren Middle School, which was in the middle of the ghetto. That was one of the darkest years for me because I encountered a lot of peer pressure. Some of the students, ignorant about Africa, bullied me and called me names such as ‘African booty scratcher’ because to them, Africans were dirty and scratched their butts all the time.
“Some asked me if I lived in mud huts and ate faeces for breakfast. I remember one day, when I was walking to the school bus, a boy came from behind and punched me in the face, called me an African and walked away. It took everything in me not to retaliate. I knew that God had put me in the U.S for a purpose and it did not involve fighting or selling drugs or doing the wrong things.
“My experience during that year gave me a thick skin. I learned to stand for what I thought was right even when the opposition seemed insurmountable. I also learned to look at the positive in all situations. Even though these kids were bullying me, I was still gaining an opportunity to school in America and nothing would stop me from making the best of this opportunity.
“The shocker was that the kid that punched me in the face was black. I would have expected the blacks to be nicer to me. Nevertheless, I don’t blame those kids because they were ignorant about Africa. All they knew about us was the stuff they had watched on TV or documentaries, showing primitive African tribes, living in the jungle and making noises like monkeys.
“In regards to the whites, there might have been some minor episodes but again I don’t blame them for it because it is a problem with stereotypes,” he said.
But in spite of this humiliation and racial prejudice against him, the first in a family of three was not discouraged. He faced his studies and was always coming top in his class. After he completed his middle school education, he passed the entrance examination to DeBakey High School for Health Professions. It was at this school that his interest in neurosciences and medicine started.
“By the second year of high school, we were able to interact with doctors, nurses and other administrators in the hospital. The more I learned about medicine, the more it felt like the thing God was calling me to pursue and by being in the US I got a lot of people to support me to do this. Even though in high school, I got to see first-hand what it meant to be a doctor. We studied advanced anatomy and physiology, learned medical terminology, and learned important skills, such as checking blood pressure, pulse rate, and many more.
“I knew I wanted to go to the best school in the US. I had heard that Johns Hopkins Hospital had been ranked the number one hospital in the US for the past 21 years and I wanted to be in that environment.’’
Worried that his parents might not be able to sponsor him to the university, Ohuabunwa purposed to work very hard. He did and when the result of the PSAT came, he performed so well that he won the National Achievement Scholar.
By virtue of this award, he received certificates of recognition from various organisations including senators from the Congress of both Texas and the US. He also received scholarship from the University of Houston; Rice University, Texas A&M Honors College and many more.
He had also won the Principal’s Award during the annual awards ceremony at DeBakey High School.
“During our graduation ceremony at DeBakey, I also won the Award for the Most Outstanding Senior Young Man and the student volunteer award for my volunteer activities in the State of Texas,” he said.
But his breakthrough came when he won the Bill and Belinda Gates Foundation full scholarship to any university of his choice. He worked hard and gained admission to Johns Hopkins University to study Neurosciences.
But why Neurosciences, Ohuabunwa said, “I studied Neuroscience, because I was fascinated with the brain, its control of our behaviours and how various diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, lead to a decline in its activity. I also minored in Psychology because I wanted to understand disorders in the psyche. What causes bipolar disorders or schizophrenia. I did not just want to label them as crazy but to understand what causes these conditions and how we can treat them,’’ he explained.
But what does he consider to be the missing links in the education sector of Nigeria when compared with that on offer in US, Ohuabunwa said unpredictable academic calendar, corruption, examination malpractice and inadequate funding were some of the problems confronting his home country’s university sector. These, he said, were absent in the US.
“There were a few problems with Nigerian higher education that contributed to our emigration in 2003.  The first was the number of strikes that occurred in schools. It took my uncle seven years to graduate with a degree that should have taken him only four years. A second problem was the corruption. We had heard of people going into universities, because they paid someone to look the other way. I also heard of a few cheating scandals, where people would pay someone to take their exams for them or get a copy of the exam a few days before,” he said.
But is he saying that US university system has no such problems at all? Ohuabunwa said, “Although this sometimes occurs in the U.S, it is less common because of the strict security. I remember when taking the Medical College Admissions Test,  test required before one can matriculate into medical school, each student had to get his fingerprints taken every time we entered and left the hall. The whole place was packed with cameras and security staff that monitored everything we were doing. The exam was computerised to make sure that no one saw the test before the actual date.”
Another difference, he said, is that America rewards hard-work while the system also emphasises on a balance between academic life and extracurricular activities.
On how he won the scholarship to Yale, Ohuabunwa said his 3.98 GPA in Neurosciences, and many awards he had won and God’s grace, contributed to his winning the scholarship.
“As at the time of my application for medical school, I had a 3.98 GPA of a 4.0. This made me  the only black student inducted into the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa. I was also awarded the Becker Family Scholarship for being the most outstanding student in the Neuroscience major at Johns Hopkins University. Furthermore, by God’s grace, I took the MCAT and scored in the top five percentile.
“That, combined with my hours of volunteer service in different hospitals across the US allowed me to gain acceptance into every medical school I applied to, including Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Columbia, and Cornell. As the time came to make a decision, I had narrowed it down to Harvard and Yale. Both schools, I enjoyed visiting. Nevertheless, while my parents prayed, they asked God to give us a sign of what school to attend. A few days later, I received a letter from Yale Medical School, offering me a full ride scholarship for all four years. That was the sign from God,” he said.
But would he come back to Nigeria after the completion of his programme, he said yes.
“I am absolutely interested in the health care policy decisions in Nigeria. Because there are many changes that need to occur, I will not rule out the possibility of coming back after my studies, in order to join hands with the leaders to make these changes possible.’’
He added that his ambition is to become a medical doctor specialising in brain surgery.
“Two weeks ago, my grandmother passed away after a long battle with strokes. Even during emergencies, it was difficult for her to get to the hospital, let alone get treatment. This is a common theme not only in the health care system of Nigeria, but in different countries in the world, where the poor get neglected.
“Second, Nigerian hospitals lack the infrastructure required to compete with major hospitals around the world. It would be an honour to one day contribute to this transformation that is necessary for improvements in Nigeria’s health care sector,” he said.
He, however, advised Nigerian youths who have the wherewithal, to go abroad to study. Ohuabunwa also called on  wealthy Nigerians to invest more in the education of the poor rather than in acquisition of material things.
Ohuabunwa, however, said that his parents, who he described as his greatest role models,  contributed a lot  to his academic feat through Godly training, counsel and guidance. He also did not forget the impact  that his short stay at Air Force school had on him.
“I was definitely not the brightest at Air Force. At that time, I felt like I spent more time running away from seniors than focusing on my studies. Nevertheless, I learned three things at Air Force that have served me well in the US. I learned discipline, adaptability and resilience. These attributes helped me a lot in US,” he said.

The 108 reasons why dieting is so difficult: From genes to boredom, the factors that can keep you fat

I got 108 problems... Experts have enumerated the reasons why dieting is so difficult and found more than 100
I got 108 problems... Experts have enumerated the reasons why dieting is so difficult and found more than 100
No wonder losing weight is so difficult – 108 different factors are conspiring to keep us fat.
Experts say that everything from using a remote control to change TV channels to having the wrong sort of friends can push us to pile on the pounds.
Other things to be taken into account include our genes and the temptation to drive, rather than walk, short distances.
While some factors, such as our genes, can’t be altered, there are many small changes that can be made and which together can have a big impact on weight, says the British Nutrition Foundation.
The charity has used a list of 108 things affecting our weight, compiled for a Government report, as a starting point for its advice.
The ‘fat factors’ are divided into seven groups – social, psychological, eating and drinking, physical activity, our environment, physiology, and TV, computers and magazines.
Having the wrong sort of friends falls into the first category. While they may be good fun, they could also be encouraging us to eat the wrong things or tease us when we say we want to exercise or join a gym.
Snacking when bored and treating food as something to reward us when things go well both fall into the category of psychological pressures.
Gulping down food can mean we eat too much before the body’s satiety signals kick in, while using TV remote controls can make our lifestyle particularly sedentary.
The British Nutrition Foundation’s annual conference  will today hear that our environment, from desk jobs to expensive gyms, is conspiring against us.
We are also bombarded by TV adverts for unhealthy foods and many of us don’t get enough sleep.
But there are many adjustments we can make to our lifestyles to improve our chances of shedding the pounds.
Social pressures: Fat friends may encourage you to eat the wrong things and or take the mickey out of your plans to exercise or join a gym

In its Small Changes: Big Gains guide, the British Nutrition Foundation makes suggestions such as getting up from the TV and doing some housework during advert breaks.
This could burn 40 calories per hour of TV viewing.
Hiding the remote control and changing channels manually would use up another 15 calories an hour.
Below are some key negative influences on would-be dieters:
SOCIAL: Peer pressure to eat badly; isolation; working long hours
PSYCHOLOGICAL: Stress and low self-esteem; snacking when bored;  treating food as a reward
EATING AND DRINKING: Big portions; eating too quickly; impulse buying in supermarkets
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Travelling short distances by car instead of walking; using remote controls to change channels; playing indoors instead of outside
OUR ENVIRONMENT: Desk jobs;  expensive gyms; reliance on labour-saving devices
PHYSIOLOGY: Not getting enough sleep; genes that make us crave fatty and sugary foods
TELEVISION, COMPUTERS and  MAGAZINES: Being influenced by unrealistically thin role models; spending hours in front of a TV or computer screen; watching TV adverts for unhealthy foods
Measuring out small portions of crisps, instead of eating them straight from the bag, could save 130 calories, while office workers who get up to talk to a colleague or make a drink at least once an hour can burn off around 120 more calories a day.
Even fidgeting has its benefits, with someone who taps their feet while sitting burning up to 350 calories a day more than someone who stays completely still.
To put the figures in context, a glass of wine contains around 90 calories and a bar of chocolate around 180.
Senior nutrition scientist Bridget Benelam said: ‘There are lots of different options to choose from in terms of making changes in our behaviour that could have a positive impact on health.’  Miss Benelam said the key to losing weight could be to try to make at least one change within each of the seven groups.
She said: ‘Within each of these categories there are multiple influencers and we believe that by proactively selecting a range of these to focus attention on, people can make a series of small changes to their behaviour which, when combined, will have a larger overall effect.
‘For example, we believe that social engagement can have a positive impact on weight management for some people, as can developing cooking skills, keeping a food or activity diary, spending more time outside, and using the same weekly on-line grocery shopping list.’

All Igbo Music Awards set to hold

Ugo Stevenson, the Director of the Ogbakoro theatre group, a professional theatre arts company, has commenced preparations for the first edition of the All Igbo Music Awards, otherwise known as Ekwe Awards.
Stevenson disclosed this while hosting a media-cum-artistic parley at the Lodan Hotels, Owerri.
"Ekwe is a percussive instrument used in all Igbo music styles. That is why we have chosen to brand the All Igbo Music Awards as Ekwe Awards," Stevenson said.
He added that the main focus of the honours ceremony was to celebrate those who have preserved Igbo language and culture "through the most effective medium of mass communication known to man, which is music".
Stevenson won awards for Best Highlife Artiste from the 2007 Awards Musical Excellence In Nigeria (AMEN) and 2008 Nigeria Music Awards (NMA).
"Anambra State is the home of Ekpili music while Enugu boasts of the Ogene sound. Bongo and Abigbo are peculiar to Imo, Odumodu is of Abia. Ebonyi has Nkwawite while our Ikwerre brothers in Rivers State have Ori Obo and the Igbos of Delta are masters of Oyorima," he said.
"These music styles are currently performed by more than two thousand practitioners around the globe, with high record of success."
He stressed that these unique music styles have found strong expression in Highlife, which may rightly be described as Igbo contemporary music.
The former National Director, Research and Documentation of the National Association of Nigerian Theatre Artistes and Practitioners (NANTAP) studied Theatre Arts at the University of Port Harcourt and worked at the Imo State Council of Arts and Culture as a performing artiste.
